3D Paper Star Garland
Age: 10–12 years · Time: 60–90 min · Level: Medium
Two flat stars become one 3D star when you slide them together. Make six and hang them in the window.
Materials
- thin card stock or heavy paper (white, gold or red)
- a star template, about 3 inches tall, drawn on card stock
- pencil and ruler
- scissors
- a large needle
- thin thread or yarn, about 5 feet
Steps
- Trace the template and cut out 12 matching stars. These make 6 pairs.
- Take the first star of a pair. Cut a straight slit from the top point to the center.
- Take the second star. Cut a straight slit from the bottom notch between two points to the center.
- Slide the stars together along the slits, at a right angle to each other. Now the star stands in 3D.
- Do the same with all the pairs.
- Ask an adult to help you push the needle through one point of each star. String them about 4 inches apart.
Safety for grown-ups
The needle and scissors are sharp. An adult should be nearby. Keep the needle away from little brothers and sisters.
