Picture: Leaf hedgehog

Materials

dry autumn leaves in different colors, cardstock, brown pencil or crayons, glue stick or craft glue, child-safe scissors, black marker.

Steps

  1. Go outside and collect 10–20 dry leaves. Press damp ones under a heavy book overnight.
  2. Draw a big oval body and a pointy head on the cardstock.
  3. Color the body brown and the head light brown.
  4. Glue the leaves around the back as spikes – start at the bottom and work upward.
  5. Draw the eye and nose with the black marker.
  6. Let it dry flat.

Safety for grown-ups

Ask an adult before going outside. Wash hands after collecting leaves; do not pick mushrooms or berries. Use child-safe scissors and non-toxic glue; an adult helps with craft glue.
